Tony Stewart Wins At Daytona, Kyle Busch Takes Out…..Kyle Busch

Tony Stewart has once again come through strong by winning at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night.

Due to family festivities and fireworks with the kids I did not get to see the race. I got home and Tony Stewart was in victory lane.

The I was hearing rumbling about how he hated to win that way and it was apparent to me that he had crashed somebody and crossed the finish line. But I did not catch any of what was going on. I checked to to see where my driver Ryan Newman had finished (20th) and headed to bed.

Got up in the morning, checked the news and saw that it was Kyle Busch. My wife has been saying for a long time that someone needs to put him in the wall and take the win away.

Neither of us want to see any driver get hurt no matter how much we dislike that driver. But when I turned to my wife and said that “Looks like Tony Stewart took out Kyle Busch for the win” I thought she was going to come unglued from her seat. I couldn’t believe it. Well, alright, I could believe it.

So I head over to NASCAR.com and pull up the video and watch it.

Even though I had not read anything about Kyle Busch being hurt, when his car spun and slammed into the wall my wife and I both cringed a little hoping that he was alright (like we were watching it live or something). When it was apparent that he was Ok we we both smiled.

My wife says “yeah, Tony took out Kyle”.

So we watched again and on the replay it was very apparent that Tony did not take out Kyle. Kyle took out himself by trying to move up the track and put a block on Stewart. Kyle ran the back of his car right into the front of Tony’s car.

Kyle spun a full 180 degrees and slammed into the wall on the drivers site. It was not pretty at all, even if you don’t like Kyle.

Then to top if off, Kyle got spun back around the right way just in time to have Kasey Kahne slam into the back him lifting him off the ground and onto Kahne’s roof.

Having not seen the race I really can not comment on to much more at this time except to say that I was a little surprised to see that the top 10 in points did not change at all. Not even Ryan Newman dropped from his 7th place finish after finishing 20th.

Jeff Gordon held his 2nd place in the points with 28th place finish but lost a lot of ground on Tony Stewart. Gordon is now 180 points back from first. Stewart gained 111 points on Gordon.

Mark Martin was probably the biggest looser Saturday night. He had just worked his way back into the top 12. I know he had an early crash but I don’t know particulars. Martin lost 2 spots down to 13th in the points as Kasey Kahne moved up 1 position to 12th and Juan Pablow Montoya moved up 1 position to 11th.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a rough night apparently. Finishing 39th and only completing 76 laps. It says “Accident” next to his name so I can only assume that he got caught up in some kind of trouble. But worse yet this drops him 2 positions in the points to 21st.

Pedicitions -
Tony Stewart will be the champ this year.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will not see the chase this year.

The top 10 in points right now will be in the chase.

Mark Martin makes the chase.

That means that Kasey Kahne or Juan Pablo Montoya will drop out. That’s a tough one, but I think Kasey Kahne will drop out.
