rantingraving121.jpg Texas Motor Speedway’s newest ad campaign has four different billboards featuring the images of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon. No probelm there, right? On each driver’s billboard there is a “personal reason” as to why fans should go to the the race on April 6th. But some are not without controversy, especially Dale Jr’s - although some Jeff Gordon fans might get a little riled up by his as well.

rantingraving122.jpg Each billboard is catchy. Tony Stewart’s says, “Reason #20: Road Rage”, while Jimmie Johnson’s declares, “Reason 48: Twice as good as 24″, and Jeff Gordon’s states, “Reason #24: 81 Cup wins. Zip at Texas”. But perhaps the most controversial is Dale Jr’s which slams Teresa Earnhardt by stating, “Reason #88: Step Mom”.

With a well placed phone call by Kelley Earnhradt Elledge, President of JR Motorsports, to TMS president Eddie Gossage, the Dale Jr billboards will be changed over the next 2 weeks and replaced with the new slogan, “Reason #88: New Car Smell”.

rantingraving124.jpg “I had a conversation with Kelley yesterday. I said, ‘If you and Junior are unhappy and want it to come down, it will come down.’ She said, ‘We still have a lot of friends and relatives at DEI. The point is we have to move on and the billboards don’t help us,’” Gossage told media.

rantingraving125.jpg According to Gossage, he got Tony Stewart’s permission for his billboard as he thought that Tony might not like it, but “I emailed it to him and he loved it.”

Praises must go out to Kelley and Dale Jr for taking the high road on this and moving on. The past, no matter how difficult, is still the past.

rantingraving116.jpg It is funny that yesterday I should write about the e-mails that I get and today I get a pretty good one (with test shots and promo photos) that I thought I’d share with you. This one is from a representative from Adidas. You know, the sport clothing company that is an associate sponsor of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Well apparently Adidas has come up with something that is very cool, literally! Read on:

rantingraving118.jpg “Dale Jr. will debut his new three stripes racing suit on February 17 at the Daytona 500. Working closely with the Adidas Innovation Team, they have created a race suit featuring advanced ClimaCool technology. With extreme temperatures in the car, ClimaCool will lower Dale Jr.’s body temperature and combat fatigue, allowing him to be more alert and responsive in those final laps.

Two days prior to the debut of the three stripes on the track, Dale Jr.’s exclusive Adidas Fan Gear will go on sale at The Sports Authority available first in Daytona. Dale Jr.’s official Adidas fan apparel line, which includes a variety of men and women’s clothing such as t-shirts, jackets, hats and jerseys, will be available at The Sports Authority in Daytona on February 15 in conjunction with Speed Week. The fan collection features the same Adidas ClimaCool technology that allows Dale Jr. to stay cool on the track.”

rantingraving119.jpg I have been promised a link to their online store and as soon as I get it I’ll put it up for you. In the mean time, soak up the cool pictures that Adidas sent me. I really like the triple test shot of Dale in his fire suit, the look on his face is great! I guess they were just trying to find the proper lighting etc. for shooting him in his suit.

I was going to post something else tonight, but I thought this would be pretty “cool” to do instead! Enjoy!
