I thought it might happen, and it did, Joe Nemechek and Sterling Marlin have both filed suits against DEI and Ginn Racing (now merged together) for “alleged breaches of their contracts, which included a base salary of $1.2 million apiece” - Bob Pockrass scenedaily.com .
Oh but wait, it gets better, Richard “Slugger” Labbe and Peter Sospenzo the former Crew Chiefs for Marlin and Nemechek are also suing - not for as much money, but enough.
These are all separate suits and were filed Sept. 7 in Cabarrus County, N.C., but they do not specify how much they have been paid to date or what exactly the outstanding balance may be.
“While we were named as a party to the lawsuit, we were never any party to those contracts; therefore, this is an obligation that Ginn will be addressing,” DEI Vice President John Story said in an e-mail to Scene Daily.
I would have to agree with DEI on this one - they have no monetary responsibility to the former employees of Ginn Racing, that is Bobby Ginn’s problem - but this whole DEI/Ginn merger never sat well with a lot of the racing community and in the realm of public opinion this just makes it worse for DEI. DEI needs to get Bobby Ginn to fix this ASAP, so the newly merged organization can move on to bigger and better things.
