Actually, I knew about this yesterday but I didn’t write about it until today - I was dog tired yesterday.

Anyway, as a sign of goodwill toward men, in particular Marcos Ambrose, Robby Gordon has offered up a car for Marcos to drive in the upcoming NEXTEL Cup Race at Walkens Glen this weekend.

Apparently Robby got

“an e-mail from a fan - one of 24,000 positive e-mails he said flooded the Robby Gordon Motorsports in-box - that suggested Gordon field a car for Ambrose this weekend at Watkins Glen as a gesture of goodwill.” - Jeff Gluck

Acting on this idea Robby set the wheels into motion and was able to secure a car, with sponsorship, for Ambrose to drive.

Amborse’s Busch team will provide the crew for the Cup race - they’ll be there anyway for the Busch race so it wasn’t that hard to convince them to go.

Ambrose was quite happy by the gesture,

“It’s a real thrill for me,” a grinning Ambrose said during Wednesday afternoon’s news conference at RGM. “I appreciate Robby coming to me with this gesture. It’s part apology and part compliment, as far as I’m concerned.” - Jeff Gluck

Ambrose was also quoted as saying,

“I hope we don’t run 1-2 with five laps to go - it could get a bit interesting.” - Jeff Gluck

I don’t doubt Robby’s sincerity in this gesture, but it is such a shame that all the other stuff had to happen in order for Ambrose to get his first NEXTEL Cup start ever.

With that being said, I hope that Marcos gets spun out deliberately by Jeff Gordon, or Jimmie Johnson this weekend in the Cup race so we can see how good he really is when he is behind the wheel of a Hendrick car the following weekend.
